We hope you will try and make these recipes at home, as they were a hit with the students during our Garden Day festivities.

It was a perfect day in Fort Collins for Shepardson Elementary’s First Annual Garden Day! All grades attended the event and were able to enjoy the exciting progress the garden has made thus far. Students were able to taste samples from our harvest and all agreed the kale smoothie was delicious. They also enjoyed the homemade salsa and lettuce greens. Look for the recipes to be posted soon, as many students would like to try making them at home. In addition to tasting, students were able to peruse the grounds and help write thank-you cards to our local supporters. They also helped make veggie markers and had fun identifying different herbs. It was great to see their enthusiasm for gardening-we can’t wait for Spring!
It was exciting to have Fox 31 News come and visit Shepardson on Friday, September 7th. The third graders were able to showcase their Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Project that they are working on in conjunction with CSU. They were able to share their experiences collecting and recording precipitation and also show off our school garden. As such, Garden Day had to be rescheduled and is now set for September 21st. Great job Shepardson third graders!
We are excited to announce that our first annual “Garden Day” is set for this coming Friday September 7, 2012. On this day, we will formally introduce the students to the garden and begin to teach them how to take ownership and care for their outdoor space. We will also do a cooking demonstration, showing the students how to put what they grow to good use for their bodies. In addition, students will help complete our temporary garden sign using birdseed and make vegetable markers for the fall and spring crops. Join us for the festivities on Friday morning!
We are so excited that our school garden, a year in the making, was ready to be showcased for the students and families of Shepardson Elementary for our annual Back to School Night Ice Cream Social on September 17, 2012. Many, many thanks go to the facilities department at PSD, specifically Jerry Garretson, Whole Foods Market, Bath Nursery, Gulley’s Greenhouse and Fort Collins Nursery for their help in making this dream a reality. Shepardson families were thrilled to see kale, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce greens, herbs and pansies growing and thriving in their new outdoor classroom. We look forward to the wonderful learning opportunities that this garden will provide the students, their families and the surrounding community!
